Chicken with French Fries & Peas

Chicken with French Fries and Peas is a Pakistani Desi fusion recipe which can be eaten with roti, bread, rice or even with chili sauce.

This is a recipe that was a staple at our home growing up, a dish loved by kids and adults both. Reminiscent of sliced beef pasanda, in this version chicken was marinated in yoghurt, salt, black pepper and of course ginger garlic paste then cooked till a thick masala gravy remained. Potatoes were thinly sliced, and then fried to make french fries, and of course we would always try to sneak in a few. Same thing would happen with peas or matar. The vegetables would then be tossed together and served. Though it could be eaten on its own with ketchup, we would love having it with roti just like a typical Pakistani salan, enjoying a bite of chicken with the yogurt covered fries. Absolutely delicious.

Would love it if you could try out and rate the recipe, and let me know how it was in the comments below!

    Ingredients

    • 500 gram chicken, with bone, cut into pieces
    • 2 tablespoon ginger garlic Paste
    • 250 grams yogurt
    • 1 teaspoon black pepper adjust to taste
    • salt to taste
    • 2 tablespoon oil plus more for frying
    • 3 potatoes sliced like french fries
    • ½ cup peas

    Instructions

    • Marinate chicken in ginger garlic paste, salt, black pepper and yogurt for half an hour.
    • Wash, peel and slice the potatoes into thin strips, like french fries. Heat oil in a frying pan or wok and fry them till crisp. Set aside.
    • Heat oil in a pot, and add the chicken with all the marinade. Saute on high heat for a few minutes till the chicken changes color from pink to white. Turn heat to low, and then cook till chicken is tender (about 35 - 45 minutes). Make sure to stir every few minutes so that the chicken doesn't stick to the bottom.
    • Once the chicken is almost cooked through, add the peas and cook for a few minutes till tender. Stir through.
    • Pour the chicken in a serving dish, and top with the french fries. Give it a toss and serve hot.
    • If the chicken is served immediately,  the french fries will remain crisp, otherwise they will turn soft and soak up the yoghurt based gravy. The dish tastes delicious either way, so serving depends on personal preference.
